Everyday Coaching

A collaborative 90 minutes to help people-managers at all levels build confidence coaching, day-to-day in the flow of work. And in doing so to unlock thinking, boost ownership and enable others to act.

Tue 20 Oct 2026 15:00 – 16:30 UK time Hosted on Zoom

The coach approach

Bringing a coaching approach to everyday conversations is a must-have skill for people-managers today. It's about knowing when to step back, resist the temptation to direct, ask the right questions – and create a space for others to think, act and grow. This collaborative and practical live session will introduce coaching tools – tried and tested with managers and leaders at all levels of organisations of our partners' organisations – and create a supportive space for you to apply them to live challenges. Building confidence with an everyday coaching approach is about two complementary skills: actively listening, and questioning more curiously and intentionally. We'll focus on both in the session, and in the resources that support it.

Clarity, Alternatives, Next Steps

At the heart of the session sits our CAN model – a simple, memorable structure for any coaching conversation, however short. It is built around three kinds of questions.

Questions for Clarity slow things down long enough to understand what's really going on, and what the person actually wants from the conversation. Questions for Alternative Perspectives open things up, surfacing options and possibilities the person may not have considered on their own. Questions for Next Steps close the loop, turning new thinking into a commitment someone can own.

We'll flex the model live in the session, using it on real challenges people bring, in pairs and small groups, with coaching demonstrations from a YCN facilitator throughout.

You'll see how these everyday coaching techniques can be flexed just as well in response to an impromptu request, a two-minute corridor conversation or within a more structured 1-1.

What you'll take away

• Increased self-awareness. • Recognition of what makes for a 'coachable moment'. • Actively listening with intention. • Mastery of the CAN questioning model. • Live coaching practice, around live challenges. • Digital tools to sustain new habits.

Who the session's for
